Dear ancientegyptamanics
I am constantly telling my students that when they visit a museum for the first time one of the best ways to learn and appreciate the ancient Egyptian art exhibits is to examine each artefact for around 5 minutes before reading the description label. Why don’t you try? Be brave (try not to cheat) and mentally acknowledge exactly what you see e.g. who/what you think it is, it colours, the material, shape, quality of the craftsmanship, symbols, symbolic meaning, age and uses. Once you have done this write everything down and then read the information label and check your observations against the information the museum provided. This is a very valuable exercise and you will find that as time goes by you will improve your detection skills.
Don’t forget to give yourself a mark out of 10.
